Capturing Memories With Original Fine Art
How to Purchase Commissioned Art
Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose commissioned art?
When a portrait is painted, it not only becomes a treasured centerpiece for the home or office, but a lasting testimony to all who shall view it. While photographs show the person in two dimensions, a portrait shows the depth and breath of the individual -- and therefore the spirit of the person can be shared for many generations to come.
What must I consider before I commission art to be produced?
Your imagination is where it all begins! Think of what you want to commemorate. Some ideas: The pride of accomplishment, winning a race, or a special vacation -- or how about a special place or moment in time, or a treasured possession? Then think of what you would like the finished portrait to look like. What setting or background would you prefer?
What happens next? What is the process?
When you are ready, call me. I need to understand your ideas and suggestions. We will also discuss any framing and shipping preferences before our purchase agreement is reached. After the call, I will generate an invoice to describe our agreement in writing and send it to you either by surface or email. Once you confirm the agreement via either email or FAX, I will expect to receive from you as many photographs as possible of the subject (all will be returned unharmed).
I will then draw a preliminary sketch, which will be copied and sent to you for approval. A 25 percent deposit must be received with your approval in order to proceed.
We will then discuss any needed refinements via the telephone (preferred) or email. Once completed, the revised sketch will be sent for your approval. A payment of 50 percent of the remaining balance will be expected with your final approval.
While I finish your art, I will call you with any questions I may have or to clarify any minute details that may arise from the art itself. Painting a portrait that most accurately reflects your expectations is a paramount goal for me. Any remaining balance will be due and payable upon notification of shipment, and all payments received are non-refundable.
Whether you unpack the framed portrait and hang it up immediately, or take it to your local framer, please regard your art as you would any other special possession. It needs to be protected from the elements, especially direct sunlight. It is difficult to repair original artwork once it is damaged.
I need a portrait rather quickly...how much lead time do you need?
If you need the portrait completed for a special occasion such as Father's Day, a birthday, or similar event, please contact me as early as possible. The more time you give me, the better. On average, a portrait requires from six to eight weeks to complete. To be safe, add another week if the art is to be framed. I have used an award-winning local framing company for many years and can offer that service if you prefer, for an additional charge.
What happens if there is shipping damage?
Your art will be carefully packaged and shipped fully insured. Once you receive your portrait, inspect it for any damage. Be aware that, if there is any damage, most shippers have a very low reimbursement threshold. Rest assured we will use all available measures to ensure your portrait arrives safely.
